My Biggest Regret As Black Stars' Captain Is Refusing To Partake In 2015 AFCON Final Shoot-out - BabyJet

Asamoah Gyan, former captain of Ghana's national team, Black Stars, says his biggest regret in captaining the national team is when Ghana came against Cote d'Ivoire in the 2015 African Cup of Nations.

It could be recalled that Cote d'Ivoire defeated Ghana in a penalty shootout with the Ivorians winning by a 9–8 shootout.

Asamoah Gyan abstained from the penalties following public outcry and ridicule of his performances for the national team.

The legendary striker, in an interview on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'' Monday morning, revealed he regrets not partaking in the penalty shootout against the Ivorian team.

He told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that on hindsight, he feels he should have played.

"I will say (my biggest regret) is when I had to ask to be substituted when we were playing against Ivory Coast in 2015. I feel if I could have taken part in the penalty shootout if I were in but due to some circumstances and things people were saying, I felt I have to give the chance to someone else to play because I had said I wouldn't take penalty kicks anymore. That's why I did that change. But although there were a lot of things involved that made me ask for that change, not just because of the penalty . . . I say that's my regret as a captain during that time," he said.
