Pen Holder Wants 'Neutrality Allowance'; What About The Soldier Holding A Gun? - Charles Owusu Jabs CLOGSAG

Former Head of Monitoring Unit at the Forestry Commission, Charles Owusu has bashed the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) for demanding payment of neutrality allowance from the government.

CLOGSAG is currently on strike over the government’s inability to pay an agreed neutrality allowance, an allowance which is to compensate for the members of the Association not allowed to engage in partisan politics or pursue a political career while working in the sector.

According to the Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission, Ofosu Asamoah, CLOGSAG is in talks with the government on the payment of the allowance.

But to Charles Owusu, the government will be setting a bad precedent should they pay CLOGSAG the neutraity allowance.

He wondered why the government would entertainment such demand because, to him, if any civil staff member wants to engage in politics but cannot because the constitution has barred them from mingling in any political affairs, the person should just resign and pursue his or her political career.

He argued that it makes no sense that a neutrality allowance will be paid to compensate CLOGSAG because they are not allowed to partake in politics.

Charles Owusu asked what the government is also doing for security agencies like the Ghana Police Service, Military and so forth because they are equally not allowed to be political.

He asked ''what if they also demand weapon handling allowance because they also handle weapons?''

''You holding a pen want neutrality allowance. What about the one holding a gun? What allowance should be given to them?'', he jabbed CLOGSAG.

Mr. Owusu called on the government not to pay the neutrality allowance to CLOGSAG, stressing there are more pressing needs of Ghanaians that must be met.

Charles Owusu made these comments on Peace FM's morning show ''Kokrokoo''.
