We're Challenged Due To Economic Crisis - GSFP To School Feeding Caterers

Managers of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) have assured caterers that their grievances will soon be addressed.

The School Feeding caterers are agitating over unpaid arrears and inadequate feeding grants.

According to the caterers, given the current economic situation in the country, which had led to escalating food prices, the 97Gp per child allocation was insufficient to provide quality food for the school children hence it must be increased to Ghc3 per child.

In addition, they demanded the payment of arrears owed them without any further delay.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National School Feeding Programme, Siba Alfa speaking in an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', said the management of the programme spoke to the leaders of the caterers and they have accepted to continue cooking for the school children while their demands are being sorted.

He said, "we've never owed them but due to the current economic situation, we are challenged. It's not the fault of government but we're giving them the assurance that the monies will soon be released."

"Their concerns are legitimate . . . we’ve started the process . . . we sent a proposal to government to make an upward adjustment and I know government will heed to it . . . " he added.
