SATURDAY MAY 28, 2011 marked the official induction of Apostle Ebenezer Nsesah Abebrese, a former General Secretary of the Apostolic Church of Ghana, into office as its new President at Tema Community 5.
Apostle Abebrese took over from Apostle John Annan Adotey, a renowned educationist and devout Christian leader who for the past five years, has steered the church on to higher spiritual levels, accompanied by many infrastructural projects.
A special farewell service which was held last Sunday at the Ghana International Trade Fair site in Accra for Apostle Adotey, saw Rev Dr Opoku Onyinah, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, advising Christian leaders who honourably retire from their ministry, to bless the people whom they served and also support their successors to raise high the banner of Jesus in Ghana and other parts of the world.
�Shun the backbiting attitude of the Ephraimites, who turned back in the day of battle and neglected their leadership responsibility,� he said.
He said though the Ephraimites could not go and fight and deliver the people of God from their adversaries, they vehemently attacked anyone who conquered enemies of the people of Israel in their stead.
He also implored Christian leaders to exhibit insightful leadership skills that would spur their members to greater achievements spiritually and physically.
Apostle John Adotey, a graduate of the University Of Cape Coast, taught Biology, Chemistry and General Science at Ordorgonno Secondary School until January 1978, when he was transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Education Office.
In October 1978, he joined the West African Examination Council and worked in various offices and capacities. He retired in 2005 as the Head of the Ghana National Office. Starting as a sunday school teacher, Apostle Adotey was the National Witness Movement Director of the church from 1990 to 1998; the Kaneshie District Pastor from 1999 to 2003 and also the Kaneshie District Apostle from 2003 to 2006, from where he was elected President of the Apostolic Church, Ghana in 2006.
He became the President-elect of the Ghana Pentecostal Council in 2008. Asked what legacies he had left for the church, he stressed: �The church is now poised to do more exploits for Jesus Christ and win more souls to God.�
