Address 'Bad Policing' In Ghana And Leave International Relation Issues To Politicians – IGP Told

The Chief Scribe of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says persons defending IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare’s statement to the British High Commissioner, Harriet Thompson are ill-fated to international relations issues.

He was emphatic on NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie' that the IGP “goofed” with his lengthy statement.

“He [IGP] could have used that to address bad policing in our country,” he said.

Some individuals have commended the IGP for educating the British High Commissioner on what her mandate should be as a diplomat.

They claimed the UK’s senior representative in Ghana’s tweet on the #FixTheCounty Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor'sarrest was ‘needless’ – since Ghana’s diplomats in the UK do not interfere in UK’s security affairs.

Harriet Thompson, in a Tweet on Tuesday, May 17, said she looks forward to seeing how the arrest of the Convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement will turn out.

“Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the convener of #FixTheCountry Movement, arrested again, I understand, for a motoring offence on his way to court. I’ll be interested to see where this goes…,” the tweet said.

But the Ghana Police Service through the IGP responded to the British High Commissioner over her comments concerning the arrest of the Convener of FixTheCountry Movement.

After posing some fifteen (15) questions to the British High Commissioner, the IGP, however, asked her to be much more concerned about her country’s issues rather not being nosy.

“De wo fie asem,” the IGP’s lengthy statement ends with the twi adage.

But Johnson Asiedu Nketia noted that the IGP’s comment was uncalled-for.

“His [IGP] duty is to protect citizens not to conduct international relation issues on behalf of Ghana,” he lamented.
