The Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) Dr. John Tampori has commended the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for the sustenance of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for nearly two decades. He stated that his facility holds the NHIS in high esteem following its unwavering financial support for quality healthcare delivery in Ghana.

Dr. Tompari stated categorically that the NHIS sustains the Ho Teaching hospital as 98.2% of patients who seek healthcare at the facility are registered members of the Scheme. He made this known when the CEO of the NHIA Dr. Okoe Boye paid a working visit to the facility during his 3-day working tour of the Volta Region.

Dr. Okoe Boye lauded the management and staff of HTH for their good work and reaffirmed that the hospital remains the biggest NHIS provider in the Volta region where lots of providers within the region and beyond can draw lessons from their long-standing relationship with the Scheme.

Dr. Okoe Boye’s visit to the Ho Teaching Hospital forms his very first visit to a provider site since he began his regional tour of NHIS regional and district offices. He reiterated the need for the NHIA to see providers such as the Ho Teaching hospital as partners of the Scheme whose services and contribution cannot be overlooked.

After this, he visited the Miracle Life Health centre, a credentialed NHIS provider within the Ho district to interact with staff, and sample member/patient experience on the use of the National Health Insurance at a primary healthcare provider level

As a means of strengthening provider relations and relieving them of financial constraints, Dr. Okoe Boye announced the newly approved 30% increment in Medicines Tariffs effective 1 July 2022. This is to say that henceforth, NHIS providers will receive an upward payment of 30% for all medicines captured on the NHIS medicines list. He hinted that another review will be done in 12 months to ensure providers get value for money. Dr. Okoe Boye further indicated that the Scheme is committed to providing cover for the aged and vulnerable thus NHIS members aged 70 and above will soon benefit from instant activation of their membership after renewal or fresh registration to ensure on-the-go access of healthcare.

Dr. Okoe Boye was accompanied by Dr. Ernest K.P. Kwarko, Board Chairman of the NHIA, Mrs. Joyce Zempare NHIA Board Member, Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Administration and Human Resources and other directors of the Authority.
