Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has expressed concern about the significant increase in Misinformation, Disinformation and Hate speech (MDH) in peacekeeping settings.

She said it was most worrying on the African continent where six of the 12 Peacekeeping Missions in the world were hosted.

The Foreign Affairs Minister expressed the sentiments in a remark she made at a Security Council High-Level Open Debate on Strategic Communications in Peacekeeping Operations convened under the chairmanship of Brazil in New York.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement said Ghana, a pioneering and major Troop and Police Contributing Country (TPCC), supported all efforts at promoting strategic communications as an important enabler and multiplier for the reduction of violence and the sustenance of peace.

Madam Botchway further highlighted areas for deepening and embedding strategic communications in Peacekeeping Missions.

The statement said earlier, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, held bilateral talks with Mr Carlos Alberto Franco França, Foreign Affairs Minister of Brazil on the sidelines of the UN Security Council Meeting in New York to deepen the already existing cordial relations between the two countries.

It said the bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Brazil had become necessary following the establishment of the Headquarters of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat in Accra, which had reinforced Ghana’s position as a gateway to trade with Africa.
