Gov't, Organised Labour Agree On 15% COLA...Strike Suspended

The government and Organised Labour have agreed on a 15 per cent Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) which will take effect from July 1, 2022.

Per the negotiations between the government side and Organised Labour, it will be paid at a rate of 15 per cent of base pay.

Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffuor Awuah speaking to the media after the meeting on Thursday, said "at the end of the negotiations they came up with a common communique" and that “the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) will be paid at a rate of 15 percent of base pay. That the effective date of the payment of COLA is 1st July 2022, ” 

The communique was signed at the press briefing by Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, Dr Yaw Baah for TUC, Benjamin Arthur for the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA). 

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Trade Unions Congress (TUC), Dr Anthony Yaw Baah after the signing of the communique called on education sector workers who have been on strike since July 4, to go back to work.
