GIJ Students Produce Raincoats And Flower Vases From Plastic Waste Materials

As part of efforts toward promoting recycling in the country in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), some students from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, GIJ during an entrepreneurship pitch project produced raincoats and flower vases produced from recycled materials mainly from sachet rubbers and plastic bottles.

The competition focused on enhancing the knowledge and practicality in entrepreneurship through the exploration of opportunities and creativity beyond academic expectations.

The G5 Creations dazzled the panel of judges at this year's pitch project with their theme song to promote recycling, as well as introducing their products which included raincoats made from “pure water” rubbers and flower vases from used plastic bottles.

The leader of the group Ms Emmanuella Chanteng emphasized the need to factor recycling as a means of protecting the environment from avoidable hazards.

She however urged government to adopt the initiative by promoting recycled products on the market to engender social acceptance and consciousness of the effort. Adding that, this could be an additional means of generating income for the unemployed youth within the country.

The “WeRecycle” project seeks to improve and facilitate the Sustainable Development Goals of promoting sanitation through recycling.
