The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey has issued a stern warning to authorities and residents at Oyibi to be law-abiding as they celebrate their Yam Festival starting on Friday, September 30.

The Oyibi Divisional Council, in a statement dated 27th September, declared Friday as a public holiday and announced to the residents they referred to as "citizens" of Oyibi to observe the holiday.

This caught the attention of the Regional Minister and the Security Council.

In an interview with host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, the Minister noted that he together with the Regional Security Council have had a meeting with the Oyibi Divisional Council to rescind the public holiday declaration.

In view of this, the Oyibi Council Secretary, Enoch Alabi Nyomowoko, in a press release dated September 28, has withdrawn the earlier statement.

“I wish to apologize to the entire citizens living in any part of Oyibi Community and the general public for releasing such communiqué and I seek that such information should be disregarded”, the statement read.

The Minister has therefore called on the residents to comply with the latest directive ensuring peace in the community.

He warned that, "anybody who breaches the peace of the community" that "the Police will do their work as is expected of them. We will not leave any stone unturned".
