South Korea 2-1 Ghana: Black Stars Suffer South Korea Friendly Defeat

Ghana suffered their first defeat under coach Goran Stevanovic when they were beaten 2-1 by South Korea in a friendly on Tuesday. A stoppage time strike by Germany-based Koo Ja-cheol broke the hearts of the Black Stars after their impressive display in Jeonju. The Black Stars could have grabbed at least a draw but striker Asamoah Gyan fluffed a first half penalty to keep the Koreans in the game. The Sunderland striker made amends when he struck in the 65th minute after the Koreans had taken the lead through Ji Dong-won. But the Black Stars then dominated the game until the Koo Ja-cheol struck in stoppage time to grab the dramatic injury time victory at Jeonju World Cup Stadium. The Wolfsburg midfielder was introduced as a second-half substitute and his goal maintains Korea�s impressive form, coming four days after a victory over Serbia by the same scoreline. Korea took the lead after 12 minutes when Ji Dong-won headed a corner into the Ghana net through the hands of goalkeeper Richard Kingson. Asamoah Gyan missed an immediate chance to equalize when he put sent a penalty kick straight into the arms of Jung Sung-ryeong, But Ghana grabbed a deserved equalizer in the 65th when Sulley Muntari released Gyan, who shot low into the Korean net. With just seconds remaining, Koo scored from close range to give South Korea the win. Ghana coach made several changes at second half to give some players the chance to impress for the Black Stars but some did not live up to expectation. It was the first defeat under the Serbian after victories over Togo, two Congo wins and a draw with England.
