President's Statement Was from Him Alone and Not the Party - Boakye Agyarko Dissociates NPP From Kwabre Comment

Former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko is shocked at some comments made by President Akufo-Addo during an interview on Kumasi-based OTEC FM.

Ashanti Regional Tour

President Akufo-Addo in his recent tour of the Ashanti region gave a media interview on OTEC FM where he was asked to respond to some threats by the people of Kwabre to vote the NPP out of power in the 2024 election.

"No problem . . . People make those kinds of threats, me, they don’t frighten me. There is no need for people to say if I do not do it, this or that. That is your own problem. Of course, I will fulfil my promises.

“If you decide to vote for the NDC in the general election, it is your choice and that is not my problem. No one will force you to vote for someone,” he indicated.

Agyarko's shock

"I listened to the interview and at a point, I wanted to turn it off . . . I didn’t want to hear it anymore. I wanted to run away. When you are a politician, you hear a lot of ‘no this, no that but there's a way to cool down tempers," Boakye Agyarko said in a one-on-one interview on Peace FM's The Platform programme.

He recalled when "myself and others like Lord Commey, we’ve been on so many campaigns compared to others. We didn’t go telling voters that they can vote for whoever they want and that if they want the NDC, it is their own issue. That’s not what we told them. We went with strategy, sweet words, and pleas, to relay our messages to the voters."

"Is this what we are going to tell them in 2024, No. What he should have said should have been sweet and assuring but to say they can choose to vote for the NDC; is that what we will tell them in 2024?" he questioned.

Apology

Boakye Agyarko has meanwhile, apologized to the people of Kwabre and dissociated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the President's comment, insisting it's just from an individual.

" . . this is just a statement from one person and not the party. The party doesn't belong to any individual, we are all stakeholders; so we apologize".
