I Am Not Responsible for Your AICC 'U-Turn' - Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister to Tiger Eye

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong has denied reports that he was responsible for the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) to denying the Tiger Eye team from using their facility for their latest documentary.

According to him, he has been out of the country and only returned on Sunday night, but gave specific instructions to the Directors of the facility to make available the facility for the Tiger Eye team when he got to know what was happening on social media.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that he had nothing to do with the confusion surrounding Tiger Eye's usage of the AICC facility.

"The two of us returned to jurisdiction on Friday night," he said.

"I immediately issued instructions to the Director of AICC to reverse the decision and allow Tiger Eye to do their show. I further informed my Minister of the matter and together we spent the whole Sunday trying to resolve the matter.

"My Minister spoke with Anas and subsequently a statement was issued," he added.

He explained that he did not know what he did for Tiger Eye to be telling the world that he has been engaging in propaganda.

"I haven't consulted nor engaged with anybody at the Jubilee House. The only people I engaged with on this matter are my Minister and the Director of AICC.

"Let Anas take notice that I don't do cheap propaganda . . ."

He reiterated that his only concern in this matter has been for Tiger Eye to be treated fairly and be allowed to use the facility and also to correct the wrong impression of political manipulation.

"The decision that brought about the brouhaha was done at a middle management level with no knowledge of the political leadership at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," he explained.

Tiger Eye stated in a statement that the AICC, in less than 48 hours to the screening of the ‘Galamsey Economy’ documentary had cancelled the venue reservation.

In a press release announcing the hitch, Tiger Eye P.I. stated that they have “already fulfilled every requirement of AICC to use the place including payment for the venue despite last minute change in cost by about per cent (30%).”

“Tiger Eye is saddened that barely 48 hours to the public screenings, when invitations have been sent to the diplomatic community and other high-profile individuals in society, and flyers sent out to the public, we have had to look for a new venue,” they added.
