Pastor Remanded For Swindling Three Sisters

A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded 44-year-old Pastor Kwadwo Poku of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Sewua, Bosomtwe District for allegedly swindling three sisters of a total of GH1,200.00 under the pretext of solving their spiritual problems. He denied the offence and would re-appear on Tuesday, June 21. Police Chief Inspector Mary Nana Adwoa Affanyi told the Court presided over by Mr William Boampong that the complainants; Ama Boatemaa, Vida Ataa and Adwoa Tawiah are siblings and reside in Sewua. In April last year, Poku demanded and was paid GH600.00 by Boatemaa to exorcise her daughter of witchcraft. He also collected GH450.00 from Ataa to cast a spell on her rich father so that he would not refuse any financial request made on him. Tawiah on her part paid GH150.00 to him to aid her to find a lost passport and resolve her marital problem. The prosecution said Poku could not do any of these, went into hiding and re-surfaced after about two months. A report was made to the police and he was arrested. He jumped police enquiry bail and was re-arrested and handed over to the police by his surety on May 29, this year.
