MQF Heart Project

During the festive season, it is very easy to get caught up in merry-making and to be oblivious to the fact that it is one of the hardest times for the vulnerable and lonely.

One of the hardest hit groups are orphans. Thankfully, there are some groups and individuals who give generously to orphanages at Christmas time. The question it leaves unanswered is, what happens after Christmas?

This is what lies at the core of the “MQF Heart Project”, a philanthropic endeavor created by the Music for your Quality Feet (MQF) family.

The MQF show began during the peak of the pandemic in 2020, almost by fluke. Ekow Akyeampong (formerly of Choice FM, Ghana) started broadcasting music virtually on social media, and was joined by hundreds of music lovers all over the world. The show which runs every Sunday on Zoom and YouTube, also often includes interview segments with musicians, health professionals, and several important personalities discussing a variety of topical issues. It also has a strong emphasis on philanthropy. Over the course of its short existence, the MQF team has raised and donated over $25,000 to organizations in the USA and Ghana. As Ekow puts it, “the MQF family has a heart….” - hence the “MQF Heart Project.”

Every year, the MQF Heart Project selects one organization or charity to support, starting with a Holiday party and continuing with donations of books, clothing, food, and mentorship through the year. This year, the beneficiary of the MQF Heart Project is the Nyamedua Orphanage in Ashalley Botwe, a suburb of Accra, Ghana.

At 10 a.m. on Wednesday January 4th, 2023, MQF will kick off this year’s Heart Project with a Christmas party for the children at the orphanage. There will be many activities for the children, including play time on bouncy castles and trampolines, reading sessions, grooming and medical screening, with lots to eat and drink and interaction with the MQF family.

MQF hopes the children will have fun and feel loved and appreciated at the party, but more than that, the long-term goal during the course of the year, is to help the kids realize that they matter. MQF’s vision is that relationships that will be created during the year will increase the children’s self-esteem and set them on a path to growth and ultimately result in an impactful life as cherished members of society.

MQF would like to thank its sponsors, especially Remitly Money Transfer, and all its donors for their support and takes this opportunity to invite everyone to help spread hope! There will be other fundraising events throughout the year, and more information will be shared via MQF's social media pages at the appropriate time!
