Police To Arrest Motorists Over Wrong Use Of Sirens

The Police Administration says it has observed with worry the blatant abuse of sirens and head lights by both authorized and unauthorized persons and organisations, which has become a nuisance on the countrys roads. The Police said it is now common to see motorists on daily basis, meandering their ways through heavy traffic jams with the aid of their sirens and head lights as if there was an emergency and they had to get a right of way. It further stated that the use of sirens is limited to Government vehicles, police vans, fire service vehicles and ambulances; hence any person outside this specification who engages in such act is committing an offence. Acting Public Affairs Director of the Police Service, Cephas Arthur, told Citi News an operation will soon be launched to arrest and prosecute perpetrators irrespective of their status. Once they find themselves in the traffic and even when they are not responding to emergency calls, they think that they can use the siren and the hazard light to evade the queue. And so they intentionally put on the siren as if they are using it for the purpose for which they are authorized to use. It has become nuisance to the general public and it has reached alarming proportions". "So we are warning all motorists that if they are found using the siren for the wrong reasons, which will be an offense, they will be arrested in a special operation coming very soon, he noted.
