3 Arrested For Fake Money

A businessman, Issaka Fuseni, 43, has been arrested by police officers from the National Highway Patrol Unit at Tent City in East Legon, Accra, for possessing fake currency notes. The suspects friends, Michael Anang, 50 and Kwame Owusu, 35, who sought to buy his freedom with a GH1500 bribe, were also incarcerated for bribing public officers. The three are currently in police custody aiding investigations while police prepare them for court today. Fuseni was accosted by the police while driving his Ford Explorer 44 vehicle from the Tent City towards Accra. The police said his single number plate with registration number DV 981-11, pasted only on the front of the vehicle, raised suspicion. A spot search of the vehicle revealed a leather briefcase loaded with counterfeit 50 notes pasted on top of papers cut into the sizes of the fake notes. There were 21 bundles of the notes, with each having 100 pieces of cuttings. The unit commander, Superintendent Obed Dzikunu, said Fuseni was arrested on Monday, June 6, at about 3pm when his car was intercepted by officers from his unit detailed at East Legon. His car has only one number plate at the front, making the police suspicious. He was therefore stopped and searched by the officers who found a handbag containing fake notes which he claimed ownership. While in custody, he made a phone call to ostensibly invite two friends to the police station. His two friends- Kwame Owusu and Michael Anang- came and offered police GH1500 to release Fuseni. Following this, the two were also arrested. The commander said the era of affluent persons committing crime and eluding justice had long passed, stressing that the Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye and his administration were making frantic efforts to bring Ghanas policing up to international standards and would therefore not spare any law breaker. The police commander noted that it was in the best interest of the citizenry to respect the laws of the country. He asked the public to cooperate with the police during snap checks and searches.
