A former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen says he sees nothing wrong with the appointment of three members of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.
 
To him, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has done nothing wrong to add more members to what some described as an ‘overpopulated’ Commission.
 
“What is wrong with what the President did?” he questioned in an interview on NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie', Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
 
His comment follows the swearing-in into office of three members of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana by President Akufo-Addo.
 
They are Rev Akua Ofori Boateng, Salima Armed Tijani and Dr Peter Appiahene.
 
Their appointment is in line with Article 43 (1 and 2) of the 1992 constitution which states that, “there shall be an Electoral Commission which shall consist of a Chairman, two deputy Chairmen, and four other members. The members of the Commission shall be appointed by President under article 70 of this Constitution.”
 
However, the opposition NDC has claimed the new additions to the Commission are member of the NPP – they also question their credibility to the new post.
 
But, Nana Obiri Boahen told host Kwesi Aboagye that, “they are human, they can be biased or not, but they were not appointed to work for the NPP.”
