NLA Has Paid Almost 60% Of The GHS15million Legacy Debt I Came To Meet – Sammi Awuku

The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mr. Sammi Awuku has disclosed that his outfit is determined to clear the GHS15 million legacy debt he met in office.

According to him, his administration has managed to settle a substantial amount of the debt and is determined to clear everything.

“Since I was appointed Director-General of NLA we have been able to deal with a number of challenges that my administration met when I assumed office.

“Because of the nature of this work, every day there are wins and so every day there is debt. My administration came to meet a legacy debt of GHS15 million. We have been able to pay almost 60% and we are working hard to clear the remaining debt,” Mr. Sammi Awuku shared during a press briefing in Accra on Monday, April 3.

The NLA Director-General continued, “We are still doing the work and the truth is that it has not been easy but we are confident that we will march on to make the NLA better.”

Despite the many challenges including the debt the National Lottery Authority is dealing with, Mr. Awuku says his outfit will support the YouStart initiative of the government with GHS10 million this year.

“Last year we supported government with GHS10 million for the YouStart programme. This year we will add another GHS10 million,” the NLA boss said. "Thanks to the hard work of the new administration, the NLA is now a member of the African Lottery Authority (ALA) and is working on its Certification for Responsible Gaming."

Meanwhile, Sammi Awuku has also revealed that revenue mobilisation for the NLA will improve significantly this year.

He said after various engagements, Ivory Coast and Nigeria will be paying royalties to Ghana for drawing the games of NLA online through KGL Group.

“My initial trips to Ivory Coast and Nigeria would now pay off as both countries will soon pay us royalties of Eighteen Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 18,000,000.00) and Thirteen Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 13,000,000.00) respectively, for drawing our Games online through KGL Group. This means we will receive Ninety-two Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 92, 0000,000.00) from KGL Group this year,” Sammi Awuku stressed.
