2024 Election: Will an SDA Member Who Is a Doctor Refuse to Treat Their Sick Mother on Sabbath Day? - Sefa Kayi Asks

Host of Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo”,  Kwami Sefa Kayi has raised concerns about the refusal of members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) to participate in Ghana’s elections due to their strong religious convictions.

The SDA observes sabbath day, which is a holy day, on Saturday; therefore they do nothing work-related or any activity they deem worldly on this day.

Also, in upholding their doctrines, the church abstains from voting.

Kwami Sefa Kayi questioned the adamant beliefs of some Christians, specifically the SDA congregation, wondering why they are so obstinate to change.

Are you saying on a Saturday, as a staunch SDA member who is also a doctor, if your mother falls sick; you won’t treat her? What are you talking about?”,  he queried.

He further asked; "Why have we allowed religion to shackle our hands and everything that we can’t think deeply any longer?”

During Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, the host, Mr. Sefa Kayi called for consensual talks to be held between the leadership of the SDA and political stakeholders in the country’s electoral system aimed at ensuring SDA members change their mindset and take part in elections as it is significant for all electorates to exercise their franchise.
