‘I’ve Smoked Weed Just Twice In My Life’

Renowned hiplife artiste Kwame Nsiah-Appau, popularly known as Okyeame Kwame, has admitted that he tried smoking before he began making music.

He said that he had only smoked twice in his entire life, which led to him quitting due to unpleasant experiences.

“I have smoked weed before; twice in my life,” he said to Kwame Dadzie on Joy Prime. “It wasn’t fun for me. Here I am. I desire awareness. I need to be informed. I want to be aware of my surroundings. I wish to experience my inner self. I don’t enjoy everything that makes me drunk. I slowed down after taking it, and then and then I started hallucinating,” he added.

Without denying it, he reaffirmed his desire to be intentional in all he does and to take responsibility for it.

Vegetarian Okyeame Kwame highlighted abstaining from alcohol as one of his lifestyle choices.

“I abstain from alcohol. I’ve had alcohol before, but if I placed all the alcohol I’ve had in 47 years into one beer bottle, my life would be cut in half. I don’t use alcohol,” he said.

In response to a question on how he stays youthful and healthy, he said that his secret has been exercising and eating the right things at the correct times.

“My secret is first, I get my seven hours of sleep every day, and after that, in the morning, I do intermittent fasting so when I wake up, I drink my water with lemon or lime, and then I wait until 10.30am or eleven before I eat my main meal,” he added.

Kwame added that he has also made it a habit to visit the gym and take his second meal around 5 o’clock in the evening.

The celebrated artiste, who has been in the music scene for over two decades, has received a number of awards for his outstanding achievement in the music industry in Ghana and Africa.

On November 2016, John Cranley, Mayor of the city of Cincinnati in Ohio, USA, presented Okyeame Kwame with a Key to the City and declared November 17 each year as ‘Okyeame Kwame Day’ to solemnise his status as International Cultural Ambassador to the city.

Kwame was also honoured on February 3, 2017 by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana with the status of an associate co-opted member for his professional use of marketing in the creative arts.

At the 2017 Ghana Music Honours, he was given the best video honour for his song titled ‘Small Small’ which featured MzVee among others.
