Bugri Naabu Leaked Tape Scandal: 'Letter That Interdicts 3 Senior Officers Has Been Interdicted' - NPP MP Mocks Police

Member of Parliament (MP) of Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro constituency, Sylvester Tetteh has mocked the Police administration for suspending the interdiction of three senior officers currently facing a parliamentary probe into their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr George Alex Mensah, Superintendent Mr. Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent Mr George Lysander Asare were placed on interdiction pending further disciplinary proceedings in accordance with Police Service regulations.

According to an earlier statement from the Service, "the action was to make way for disciplinary proceedings into their conduct in line with police service regulations".

But the Police administration, in a letter dated 7th September, 2023, has suspended the interdiction of the three officers.

“Following the interdiction of COP/Mr George Alex Mensah, Supt/Mr Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Supt/Mr George Lysander Asare in connection with the leaked audio tape, the Police Administration would commence disciplinary proceedings into their conduct upon completion of the ongoing probe by Parliament.”

“In order not to prejudice the ongoing probe, the Police administration has suspended their interdiction,” the statement signed by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs said.

Reacting to the two statements in a panel discussion on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, Hon. Sylvester Tetteh questioned the management of the Police for interdicting the officers in the first place.

He wondered what wrong or crime the officers had committed to merit an interdiction.

"I didn't ever know that it is now a crime for someone to lobby somebody for a position or discuss somebody not doing his work well," he said in defence of the embattled senior officers.

"I am glad that the Police administration or Police Council has issued another statement to interdict the earlier interdiction. The letter that interdicted the three officers, the letter has been interdicted...I was wondering the basis on which they did that interdiction," he ridiculed the Police.
