Ghanaian Afrobeats artiste Kelvyn Boy has called out the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey over his deafening silence in seeking the welfare of creatives.
Taking to Twitter to express his concerns today, the reigning VGMA Highlife Song of the Year winner said he was surprised at the Deputy Minister’s inactions.
Kelvyn urged the Deputy Minister to live up to expectation and create an avenue to support the industry.
He wrote: “Ok so now to Creative Arts. Where Mark Okraku Mantey dey? Since he became Dep. Minister for our space He’s grown awfully silent. For an outspoken, extrovert like Mark, I’m a bit surprised. What really dey go on?!”
Until his political appointment, Mark, who has a rich background in music production and artiste management, was seen as a beacon of hope for the sector having been a strong advocate for the arts sector.
However, it appears the high expectations have been put down and Kelvyn Boy just like other creatives, who had high hopes for better fortunes for the sector under him, continue to voice out their disappointment with his performance.
Apart from Kelvyn Boy, a number of creative performers including artiste manager, Bulldog, musician/social activist, A Plus, Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale and Tictac have expressed similar sentiments about Okraku Mantey’s performance.
Earlier this month, media personality, KOD in an interview with Hitz Fm’s Andy Dosty noted that it was even difficult to get access to Mark Okraku-Mantey for support adding, “He has forgotten why he was elevated. We thought someone like him would be a mouthpiece for us”.
