'I'm Yet To See A Muslim Vice Prez Who Preaches Religious Tolerance More Than Bawumia' - Sammi Awuku Debunks 'Tribal Politics' Claims

The Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku has expressed disgust over claims that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is stoking tribal sentiments in his bid to become flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party.

Sammi Awuku found it outrageous for any person to make such an assertion against the Vice President.

In an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, the NLA boss stated emphatically that Dr. Bawumia is running a clean campaign.

"We are rejecting any assertion and claim that the Bawumia camp is campaigning on tribal or religious lines because if he does that, he won't survive in the race. Because the religion he emanates from is a minority, so how does he wage a campaign on religious lines? Then that means he is not a strategist and it won't make sense that where you are seeking to get the mandate, when it comes to the religious dimensions and dynamics, you are coming from a weaker position but he has reached beyond his religion," he asserted.

He described Dr. Bawumia's relationship with people to be cordial stating, "I am yet to see a Muslim Vice President who also visits many Christian programs and preaches religious tolerance".

" . . so I was shocked when I heard he is campaigning on religious lines. Now, let me take the tribal, his Region is one of the smallest; six constituencies . . . So, how can he campaign even on Regional or tribal? Then he won't survive it as well but he won hands down in Ashanti over 80%, won Eastern Region over 70%; in all Akan regions, he won convincingly and it's because of how his demeanor and the way he conducts his campaign," he added.
