Chelsea are ready to sell Michael Essien in order to fund a move for Tottenham ace Luka Modric, according to reports in the English media.
Essien struggled to rediscover his form last term after a disappointing season blighted with injuries and poor performances.
The 28-year old has been linked with a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho who is looking to bring the �18million rated midfielder to the Bernabeu this summer reports the Daily Express.
The Ghanaian may also be used as a makeweight with Chelsea perusing Inter Milan�s Wesley Sneijder.
Sneijder is target for both Chelsea and Manchester United but will cost any suitor a cool �35million.
