Black Stars' Goalkeeper Crisis

The recent pressure on Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson to quit the national team has presented the Black Stars with the reality about the state of goalkeeping in the country. The ex-Blackpool shot-stopper has been at the end of an intense media campaign this week for him to quit the national team because of recent goals he has conceded. Kingson was clearly at fault when he miscalculated a back pass that led to Congos consolation goal during last weeks 3-1 win in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Kumasi. Three days later in South Korea, Ghana went down 2-1 in a friendly against the hosts and once again Kingson was blamed for both goals. In truth, he cant be blamed for both goals in Korea, but he has a case to answer to failing to grab the cross that led to the second goal even though central defenders Isaac Vorsah and Jonathan Mensah should have dealt with the ball in the first place. The continuous howlers by Kingson must raise eyebrows about his agility having served the country for nearly 18 years, but the big question is who is the right person to take over from the first choice goalkeeper if he leaves?
