Professor Joseph Osafo, a Senior Psychologist, has slammed those playing the religious card in the body politics of the country.

The Professor found it outrageous for any person to tend to create religious tensions.

His comment comes on the heels of Sam George’s remarks on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s relation with Christian folks.

Ningo-Prampram legislator, Sam George, in an interview on Metro TV, questioned the Islamic faith of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The NDC MP accused Dr. Bawumia of not being a true Muslim saying “you are talking about a man whose character you cannot vouch for”.

“Do you know whether our Vice President is a Muslim or a Christian? Who told you h is a Muslim?”, he questioned.

Sam George opined that the Vice President is “a Muslim by day and Christian by night”, stressing “he’s not a proper Muslim and I will show you why. When the issue of fasting for girls came up during Ramadan, Dr. Bawumia was silent”.

“No true Muslim in the world believes that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. He is not a proper Muslim”, he added and called Dr. Bawumia “a religious prostitute”.

But to Professor Joseph Osafo, it is utterly unacceptable and unnecessary for one to try ruining the harmony between Islam and Christianity in Ghana.

Citing examples of how Christians including himself have been mingling with Muslims and the long-lasting relationships, the Psychologist condemned the likes of Sam George who have attacked Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his regular visits to churches and interactions with the Christian community.

He warned them against using religious tags during next year’s elections.

“Ghana’s election has never been a religious election. It must be elections of competence and abilities”, he cautioned while delivering his submissions on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
