Court Jails Two Motorbike Thieves

A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced two motorbike thieves to a total of 36 months imprisonment in hard labour. Kwame Owusu, 18, and Ahmed Mohammed, 21, pleaded guilty to conspiracy, unlawful entry and stealing. They would each serve 18 years in jail. Police Inspector Philip Yao Bebli told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the complainant, Prince Asiamah, is a security officer working with All Strike Security Services and lives at Aburaso in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District. The convicts are also residents at Kwadaso, a suburb of Kumasi. On May 26, this year, a witness in the case informed the police that the two were selling a motorbike with registration number M-11-GK-1557, to an unidentified person at the Kumasi Race Course, which he suspected was stolen. The police quickly moved to the scene and arrested Owusu and Mohammed with the bike. The potential buyer however managed to escape. Owusu and Mohammed confessed stealing the motorbike in their caution statement.
