5 Naval Officers In Bloody Accident

Eight persons including five naval officers sustained various degrees of injury when the different vehicles they were traveling on got involved in an accident on the Takoradi Vodafone road early yesterday morning. Briefing Daily Guide on how the unfortunate incident occurred, Chief Inspector Gabriel Kwame, Station Officer of the Takoradi District Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service said the accident occurred at about 7:20am yesterday. He explained that the five naval officers were moving in a Nissan Almera Saloon car with registration number WR 567-11 from the Paa Grant Circle towards the Kwame Nkrumah Roundabout. He said on reaching the Vodafone area, a taxi cab ahead of the Nissan Almera Saloon car allegedly negotiated a U-turn without any traffic indication. According to the Takoradi MTTU boss, the naval officers alleged that in an attempt to avoid hitting the rear of the taxi cab whose number was not immediately known, the Nissan Almera Saloon car veered off its lane and collided with two oncoming vehicles on the other lane heading in the opposite direction. The other two vehicles involved in the accident were a Suzuki Forenza Saloon car with registration number GE 346 Z and a Toyota Corolla Saloon car registered GT 2230 W, being driven by a man and a woman respectively. In the process, the five naval officers, two occupants of the Suzuki Forenza Saloon car and the woman driving the Toyota Corolla sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi. Chief Inspector Kwame indicated that two of the victims were treated and discharged while the rest including the woman were responding to treatment at the hospital.
