Menzgold Case: NAM1's Trial Begins December 20, 2023

The Financial and Economic Division of the High Court in Accra presided over by Justice Ernest Owusu-Dapaa, has set Tuesday, December 20, 2023 to commence trial of the Chief Executive Officer of the defunct Menzgold.

Nana Appiah Mensah popularly known as NAM1, CEO of the defunct gold dealership Company, MENZGOLD is facing charges for allegedly defrauding some Ghanaians millions of cedis.

This follows the completion of a Case Management Conference (CMC) when the case was called on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

The Prosecution led by Director of Public Prosecution, Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa informed the Court that they will call eleven witnesses to testify in the trial.

Before the court proceeded with CMC, Justice Owusu-Dapaa, who is presiding over the case as a Justice of the Court of Appeal with additional responsibility as a High Court informed the parties that, the court is open to Plea Bargaining if the parties decide to go for that option from now till the time of judgement.

He noted that, the court will not ignore the financial dimensions at stake.

The plea bargaining is a law that allows the Prosecution and accused to reach an agreement for the accused person to plead guilty to the charges for a lesser punishment.

The case has been adjourned to December 20, 2023 for the trial to start after which the case will be heard on a daily basis from January 15, 2024.
