Allow Musicians To Work With Politicians

The agenda has started very seriously and many more are on the side of music artistes to reap their efforts in these hard times of their career. What are some of these hard times we are talking about in this piece? It is now obvious that album sales have reduced drastically whiles event organizers pay meager salaries to musicians of today even if they have sponsors on their shows. One drastic issue is the fact that even music producers are hard to find these days therefore the inability of artistes to produce their recorded albums. Every event organizer has the idea of profit at the back of his or her mind therefore they contract music artistes with that motive high on the agenda. What are some of the ways our music artistes can also pass through to make some monies to augment their bad condition. Politicians and political parties are good partners for our musicians but our musicians are always afraid to do business with them because of what the general public and their fans are likely to say about them. A journalist can write stories on different political parties and nobody will tag him as belonging to one of the parties but let a musician do a song for a political party and eye browse will be raised at that person. This piece is to help erase that negative connotation which is attached to musicians doing business with political organizations. There is no denying the fact that some musicians have complained badly about how some politicians and political parties have treated them which often stems from what the public and their fans talk about. Let`s try to understand it this way. As a musician, he or she can be contracted to compose a song or perform for a political party or person at a fee which is equal to performing for an institution like Charter House or Events and more. After the performance, the deal ends there without any expectation of the party making the musician a minister of entertainment and arts affairs. Why don't we blame Charter House and co when after working with artistes for years, they go back into poverty. There should be a paradigm shift where musicians can comfortably work with politicians and make profits from whatever source they make their money from without any bashing from their fans. For crying out loud, these people are creative minded artistes who can do some thing profitable with their talents without necessarily being part of the dreams and aspirations of the political party which contracted him. We should understand that musicians can work with politicians on fairly and strictly business relations with no strings attached or whatsoever. The only warning to such musicians is to be sure of whatever contract they sign with them and to also consider their image in their chosen career. As a public figure, one should bear in mind that you have diverse fans with different mind set and thoughts on certain issues. Why do fans of musicians think it is okay for their idols to work with institutions like MTN when in actual fact, they use Tigo or Vodafone? It is the same understanding with musicians working with politicians on business grounds. Talk about musicians who have had business relations with political parties in Ghana and names like Daddy Lumba, Kwabena Kwabena, A-Plus, Lucky Mensah, Nana Ampadu and more will come to mind. Some of them do not have the political parties they worked with in power but they are still doing well in their career without any threats of career collapse. So what is the fuss about musicians: both gospel and secular in dealing with politicians on business lines? Let`s leave them alone to make some money from these politicians because they make the world go round. Let`s start the debate in our cars, media platforms, homes, lecture halls and even in churches. Musicians must also eat so let`s allow them especially in this period of dryness. The time is now so let`s start the paradigm shift...once again: NO ARTS...NO VOTES!!!
