Kasoa Ritual Murder: I Killed 10-year-old for Money Rituals - First Accused Tells Court

The first accused in the Kasoa ritual murder case has told the High Court in Accra that he killed Ismael Mensah Abdallah because of his family's financial hardship.

He made the disclosure in court on Thursday, January 11, 2024, during a cross-examination session by Lawyer Lawrence Boampong, representing the second accused.

He revealed to the court, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, that his inability to attend school due to his parents financial struggles led him to pursue money at all  costs.

Further, he stated that the idea of money ritual stemmed from watching a TV advertisement featuring a woman claiming that one could get more money if they brought five thousand cedis (GHC 5,000).

Lawyer Lawrence Boampong who was holding brief for Martin Kpebu also inquired if he had ever smoked weed. He answered in the affirmative but said it was only once.

Two teenagers are currently facing trial at the High Court in Accra for their alleged roles in the gruesome murder of 10-year-old Ishmael Mensah Abdalla in April 2021.

The case has been adjourned to January 22, 2024 for the second accused to open his defence.
