Claims Akufo-Addo Sacked MMDCEs For Not Campaigning For Bawumia Is Baseless - OB Amoah

Hon. Osei Bonsu Amoah, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development has described the assertion that the dismissal of some 24 Municipal and District Chief Executives was linked to their lack of support to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as baseless.

The president, Nana Akufo Addo, on the 2nd of February, issued a communique revoking the appointment of 24 MMDCEs with immediate effect.

The reason for the action remains unclear but rumours have it that, the 24 sacked MMDCEs were those who campaigned against the vice president during the New Patriotic Party’s Presidential Primaries in November,2023.

Speaking to Umaru Sanda on the EyeWitness News on Citi FM, Hon. OB Amoah pointed that the president has the constitutional mandate to appoint and revoke appointments when he deems necessary.

Such allegations have no basis at all. There are probably some places where the DCEs did not campaign for Vice President Bawumia, but they are still in office and as to whether they have problems with their Members of Parliament, it depends on the president’s discretion as to whether such a person should still serve or let somebody else take over," he said.
