"The Specific Things Dr Bawumia Was Charged To Handle, Evidence Shows He Delivered" - Oppong Nkrumah

Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has asked Ghanaians to trust Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to deliver on his promises when elected President of Ghana.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, delivered his vision to Ghanaians at an event held at the UPSA in Accra.

The Vice President outlined various policies he intends to implement under his reign as President and among the policies are he will abolish E-Levy, betting tax and other taxes, grant tax amnesty, abolish national service, build a "Digital Ghana" and create a technology hub in Ghana, give every tertiary student a laptop to facilitate their studies, remove the human face at passport office.

He also touched on what the incumbent government has achieved particularly regarding the things he is in charge, hence citing his digitalization agenda which he noted has been very successful.

He mentioned areas like the Ghana Card synchronization with SSNIT, GRA, banking transactions and so forth as well as networking of hospitals across the country.

This notwithstanding, some people blame him for the economic mess under the Akufo-Addo administration, so wondering what new or different thing can he do to salvage the economy.

Reacting to this, the Information Minister has outlined reasons why Dr. Bawumia deserves to be Ghana's next President.

Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah noted that Dr. Bawumia has been very instrumental in digitalizing the economy and not only that but has also executed his duties effectively, thereby proving to the populace how competent he is to lead the nation.

The Minister, contributing to "Kokrokoo" panel discussion show on Peace FM on Thursday, February 8, stated emphatically that under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, "about 80 percent of our promises either completed or in progress".

He alluded to the New Patriotic Party's 2017 manifesto stating the government has accomplished a lot of its policies.

Also responding to criticisms that Dr. Bawumia cannot be absolved from the economic woes visited upon Ghanaians, Hon. Oppong Nkrumah opined that the Vice President cannot be blamed for the underperformance of the Ministers charged with responsibility of ensuring the government's vision materializes.

"If Nana Addo's government promises that we will establish Creative Arts studios, the Vice President is not a Tourism Minister. So if, in the end, the Tourism Ministry doesn't deliver, it will be difficult to say you are holding the Vice President responsible for it, especially when in our constitutional arrangement, he has no direct responsibility over it", he cited.

The Minister implored Ghanaians to give Dr. Bawumia the nod saying "you must believe him because, first, the NPP broadly has delivered on majority of its promises despite the challenges today and, second, the specific things that Dr. Bawumia was charged to handle, the evidence is clear of how he has handled it".
