We Were Rich Before We Came To Power!... Baba Jamal

Deputy Minister of Information Hon. Baba Jamal has made it clear that members of his government were rich before they came to power. He has stated that about 80 percent of politicians are self-made, and that only a few come into politics as paupers, and therefore there is a need to do due diligence on some of the allegations of corruption against them. Speaking to media practitioners in Kumasi, the Deputy Minister pointed out that people were being hunted for political reasons, because President Atta Mills did not take delight in rushing through cases of alleged corruption against political opponents. Baba Jamal said as a law Professor of over 25 years experience, Mills had to be reactionary government in the name of peace and development, and therefore there are no political prisoners in the two and half years of National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration. He said the President believes that the trend where political opponents are persecuted, arrested and prosecuted for political reasons must stop. According to him, the President, and for that matter the ruling (NDC) government, would not try to undermine the legal system by rushing through cases and that the government would always adopt due diligence in the administration of justice. The Deputy Minister also rubbished the claim by former President Jerry John Rawlings recently that the NDC was in bed with the opposition NPP, adding that political parties in Ghana had long been in league with the instructions such as the Intra Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) and activities of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Political would continue to rule and until they respect each other the integrity of the citizens would forever be undermine and abused, he added. The Deputy Minster called for professionalism on the part of journalists, and gave the assurance that his outfit was prepared to work with the media in the quest to deliver on the governments Better Ghana Agenda. Baba Jamal reminded media practitioners to criticize the government constructively and accurately to expose the potentials of the various districts and the country as a whole, under the rebranding Ghana project.
