KMA Boss Faces No Confidence Vote

Samuel Sarpong, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Boss, might be heading out of office very soon, if reports emanating from the assembly are anything to go by. Credible information from the KMA suggests that most of the assembly members are vexed about the Kumasi Mayors recent action which, they say, has dented the image of the entire assembly members. Mr. Sarpong reportedly announced on radio in Kumasi recently that the assembly member of Ridge/Nhyiaeso Electoral area, Hon. Abraham Boadi aka Opooman, was a wanted man. The KMA Boss was said to have further stated that Opooman was being sought after by the BNI and the police for allegedly instigating the victims of the Ahodwo Roundabout decongestion exercise to make foul comments about him (Sarpong) and the assembly. The assembly members claim Mr. Sarpongs comment about their colleague member of the assembly has dented the image of the entire assembly members. They also claimed that Mr. Sarpongs decision to storm the studios of Kapital Radio in Kumasi with armed police officers to cause the arrest of two of the victims of the Ahodwo Roundabout decongestion exercise also affected the image of the assembly. The assembly members, Daily Guide sources said, have given Mr. Sarpong an ultimatum to apologize to the assembly by this Friday. The source said if Mr. Sarpong failed to apologize, the members would call for an immediate vote of no confidence in him. The paper has also been told that a section of the assembly members which is fed up with Mr. Sarpongs iron-fist rule and lack of respect for the assembly members, is planning to stage a mammoth demonstration against him in Kumasi soon. The Ridge/Nyiaeso Assemblyman, Mr. Boadi, has told DAILY GUIDE that he personally heard Mr. Sarpong saying on radio that the BNI and police are after me and that I am on the run to dodge arrest. Mr. Boadi said it was not true that he was being chased by the BNI and the Buffalo Unit of the Police, as claimed by the Kumasi Mayor, lamenting the comments by Mr. Sarpong had defamed him. Opooman stated that he would also drag Mr. Sarpong to the Complaints and Public Relations Sub-Committee soon for the necessary actions to be taken against the KMA boss. He said as the assemblyman of Ahodwo Roundabout where the decongestion exercise took place, he was expecting the KMA boss to have informed him earlier about the exercise but he did not. According to Opooman, the BNI nicely invited him to assist them investigate an issue that came up after the decongestion exercise in his area and I honoured the invitation without any problem. He expressed disgust and surprise about Mr. Sarpongs decision to spread falsehood that I am being chased by the BNI and the police, which are totally not true.
