Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Was Very Instrumental In Passing Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill - Sam George Praises Suame MP

Parliament has praised the immediate past Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, over the passage of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

The bill, which is to come into effect after President Nana Akufo-Addo’s assent, is to ensure a proper human sexual behavior and uphold Ghanaian family values.

The bill criminalizes all activities of the LGBTQ+ community and prohibits activism of homosexual practices.

Offenders will face a jail term of not less than 6 months to 5 years.

Speaking on behalf of the members of Parliament who championed the bill, Sam George, Ningo-Prampram lawmaker, disclosed the instrumental role of Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu who doubles as Suame MP.

According to him, Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu played a key role in modifying the bill ensuring it doesn’t trample on fundamental human rights.

“We cannot thank Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu enough for the fantastic work he did with amendments to make sure that this bill has come out well. We believe that the majority of the NPP side, I cannot forget the immediate past Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, the Hon. Dr. Afriyie, who actually helped us to improve the definition of sex by adding chromosonal structure to the definition of sex. So, there has been a massive support from the Majority side and overwhelming support from the Minority side. The House has stood united,” he told the media following the passage of the bill.
