Presiding Member Denies Knowledge Of Decongestion

THE PRESIDING Member (PM) of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Nana Owusu Appeasah, has surprisingly denied having knowledge of the recent decongestion exercise by the assembly in some parts of the Garden City. Nana Appeasah, who by his position should at least be privy to every decision or action taken by the assembly, has disclosed that he had nothing to do with the decongestion exercise. The KMA Presiding Member shockingly revealed that he heard about the decongestion exercise on radio so he was not in the position to make credible comments about the issue. Nana Appeasah, who was speaking with Don Dada of Boss Fm, said my brother, I know nothing about the decongestion exercise at Ahodwo Roundabout, I heard it on radio. The KMA PM, who assumed his position some months ago, also stressed that he did not know the amount of money earmarked by the assembly for the exercise. He noted that now that he had heard about the decongestion exercise on radio, he would verify from the assembly the nature of the exercise and the amount earmarked for it. The KMA destroyed shops, containers and wooden structures at the Ahodwo roundabout recently, all in the name of a decongestion exercise to make the area clean. Since the exercise, scores of people in Kumasi have descended heavily on Samuel Sarpong, the KMA Boss about the manner in which the exercise was conducted. Source at the assembly have also hinted the paper that the KMA boss allegedly undertook the decongestion exercise on his own without the knowledge of the assembly due to his personal interest. Some assembly members who spoke to the paper on condition of anonymity alleged that Mr. Sarpong was running a one-man show type of leadership which had angered most of them. They further alleged that Mr. Sarpong has since his assumption of office as Kumasi Mayor been acting like he is running his own private company and this has gradually incurred the wrath of most of the assembly members.
