Atik Mohammed has expressed worry over the performance of the Black Stars in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.

Atik was particularly alarmed by the play of the national team against the Central African Republic on Monday, June 10, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The Black Stars has secured 9 points to lead their league table and have a safe lead to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The World Cup will be held in three locations; the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Jordan Ayew gave the Black Stars the lead after scoring a hat-trick, making him the first Ghanaian player to do so after 2017.

He put Ghana ahead with an early penalty but the Black Stars trailed 2-1 at the break after the visitors took advantage of defensive frailties.

The Stars fought back and played with fortitude to close the day with a resounding victory that sent the charged spectators into a frenzy cheering them up in joy.

Although there was victory for Ghana, Atik shared his frustrations with how the Stars failed to dominate the game to extent that they were saved by time to maintain their win.

He wondered how a team such as Central African Republic could give the Black Stars such tough competition by scoring three goals in a match against Ghana.

Atik cautioned the Black Stars ahead of their subsequent matches stressing “we’re paying for happiness, not torture. They (Central African Republic) tormented us from start”.

He made these remarks on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo”.
