I Am Saddened And Heartbroken Adenta MP

NDC Member of Parliament for Adenta Constituency, Kofi Adu Asare, says he is saddened and worried at the needless controversy surrounding the enstoolment of a new Ga Mantse under the stool name Nii Tackie Adama Latse II. According to him, it is extremely disappointing that the installation of a Ga Mantse has been politicized and allowed to degenerate into total chaos. King Tackie Tawia III has since his enstoolment as Ga Mantse, encountered stiff opposition from some members of the royal family who have over the years challenged his legitimacy to the throne. On Sunday June 12th, a new Ga Mantse Nii Tackie Adama Latse II was installed as promised by the Gbese Mantse during the lifting of the ban on drumming and noise-making in Accra. But less than a week into his kingship, the legitimacy of enstoolment is being challenged. Elders of the Asene Dzaase, principal king makers in the Ga State have dissociated themselves from his nomination and installation. One of the elders, Amarkai Amarteifio at a press conference in Accra accused the Dzaasetse, Nii Amarkai III of arbitrarily sanctioning the installation of the new king. The Dzaasetse at the outdooring ceremony of the new king proclaimed Nii Adama Latse II as the rightful heir to the Ga throne. According to him, Nii Tackie Tawiah III, the king, who until Sundays installation is regarded, albeit with some controversy, as the Ga King, has no place in the Ga Stool, at least for now. However, Amarkai Amarteifio said even though Nii Amarkai III is the legitimate acting head of the Asene family, his action was reprehensible. The role that Nii Amarkai III played over the weekend was not sanctioned by the Dzaase of Asene. It was not authorized; it was not mandated. It was premature and has the potential of preempting matters pending the judicial body. It has the potential of undermining the process of adjudication to determine who is Ga Mantse. The Dzaase of Asene cannot sit down and accept this, he added. Amarkai Amarteifio said the Dzaase will abide by the ruling of the Ga Traditional Council. Commenting on the Ga chieftaincy issue on Peace FMs Kokrokoo Morning show, the soft-spoken NDC MP warned that attaching politics to the Ga Mantse issue will escalate an already precarious situation and also difficult for the people to reach a consensus. An emotionally filled Kojo Adu Asare questioned the rational for the raging Ga chieftaincy battle when virtually every Ga land and property has been sold off. I am a Ga because my mother hails from the Greater Accra Region. So this (chieftaincy) brouhaha is really worrying; and it saddens me that it has degenerated to this levelall our lands are gone and it is left with only the sea, even the fishes in the sea are gradually getting depletedwe are looking at other ways buffer our fish stock, so what is there to fight over? With Accra as the capital of Ghana, it is disturbing to have such issues happening, he said sadly. I am speaking with a lot of pain in my heart because; there are no properties that Gas can boast off. All the properties are owned by people who we sold our lands to so when you become the Ga Mantse, what will can you boast off? For all the lands we have sold over the years, we have nothing to show for it, we dont own any market, shopping mall, fleet of buses so what are we fighting over? an emotionally filled Kojo Adu Asare said.
