New Juaben Demonstrates Against Oti Boateng

The Chiefs and youth of New Juaben traditional area in the Eastern Region have staged an unprecedented demonstration across the regional capital, Koforidua. The group is protesting the leadership style of the paramount chief of New Juaben, Daasebre Oti Boateng. They claim Daasebre Oti Boateng is unconcerned about developmental issues in the area. He has also been accused of failing to cooperate with other chiefs in advancing the growth of the New Juaben traditional area. The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs is also accused of interfering in chieftaincy issues outside his jurisdiction. The chiefs held a press conference on Tuesday June 21 to register their displeasure at the conduct and leadership style of Daasebre Oti Boateng. Speaking to Citi FMs Eastern Regional correspondent Kwame Appiah Kubi, the Nsenaahene of New Juaben, Nana Yaw Annor Boateng II was optimistic that the demonstration would highlight their dissatisfaction with their paramount chief, and hopefully bring about the necessary changes. He emphasised that the demonstration is not against the government but against the leadership style of the paramount chief of New Juaben, Daasebre Oti Boateng, who is a former Government Statistician. This demonstration should actually bring to the fore his leadership style which most of the citizens detest. Everybody is bored(sic), everybody is disenchanted. We are not demonstrating against the government, we are demonstrating against Daasebre who is refusing to listen to reason, customs and traditions he declared. He called on Daasebre Oti Boateng to stop meddling in the affairs and decisions of some sub chiefs, including the power to select and enstool their own leaders.
