Drivers using the Tema motorway have been advised by the Tema Regional Police Commander, Augustine Gyenning, not to stop immediately they develop a fault on their vehicles whilst driving on the Tema motorway since they can be attacked by criminals hiding in nearby bushes. He mentioned places like Ashaiman Under-bridge and Abattoir area as the most dangerous areas, especially at night, explaining that the police had observed that some anti-social persons sometimes put such things as nails, broken bottles and very sharp edge stones on the way with the intension to deflate the tyres or create inconvenience to drivers. Speaking to The Ghanaian Times, he said drivers who fall prey to this and stopped to fix whatever problem on their vehicles were attacked by robbers and deprived of their valuables. ACP Gyenning said another tactic by the criminals was to hit or bump into other people�s vehicles and when they stopped to see the culprits or the extent of the damage, the robbers attacked them. He said in some cases, the criminals sit on motorbikes and ride on the motorway to attack both drivers and pedestrians at night, and hence, the need for people to be very careful when using the motorway at night. He advised that unless the fault is severe and one could not move at all, he or she should keep driving and said a patrol team made up of both the police and the army, were always patrolling the motorway at night. ACP Gyenning said the police was working hard to reduce crime to its barest minimum and indicated that compared with previous years, the crime situation at Tema and its environs had reduced, but was quick to add that there was still the need to do more. He said it has come to the notice of the police that the criminals change their modus immediately the police were upbeat on their heels and gave the assurance that the police would not rest on their oars. He called on the public to release information on the activities of criminals to facilitate their work.
