The former President, Jerry John Rawlings has predicted that the NDC and the supporters of President Mills will �pay� for the manner they went about securing victory for their candidate in the party�s recent National Delegates Congress in Sunyani against his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings. In his first public statement since the excruciating 96.9% to 3.1% defeat inflicted on his wife at the NDC flagbearership contest at the Sunyani Congress, President Rawlings alleged that the delegates were �cowed� by a combination of threats and money into voting for President Mills rather than Mrs Rawlings. The former military leader and founder of the NDC said Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings would have pulled out of the flagbearership contest race if she had realized that President Mills� camp had bribed the delegates with heavy sums of money, even though some would have questioned her decision to withdraw. Nevertheless, the party would pay the price for what happened in Sunyani. �It�s the party and the government is going to pay for it. Had my wife realized earlier enough that they had used so much money on the delegates and had also used the fear factor and things might no longer work in her interest when last year over 82 percent were going to vote for her against the President and then it ends up the manner it did, had she even known and withdrawn, the delegates would have said why did you withdraw we would have voted for you�. Speaking to the BBC, Mr. Rawlings, contrary to the expectations of many, vowed that the former first couple would remain active in Ghanaian politics until what he calls the injustices perpetrated in the country are addressed. �I don�t know whether she would want to go for the leadership of the party again or set up her own party but Nana will never get out of politics, I will never get out of politics so long as injustice continues in my country. �What the government is doing is that they are perpetuating the ills of the past and that will destroy the moral fabric of the society and we have to prevent it�. Although he refused to be drawn on his wife�s political future, Mr. Rawlings said Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings was currently engaged in writing a book on the NDC Congress and its aftermath and would decide at the end of her literary efforts.
