IPMC/EMC Collaborate To Develop ICT

Information Technology giant IPMC in collaboration with the United States-based EMC are effectively engaged to ensure efficiency and infrastructure development in the country�s Information Communication Technology delivery. A new ICT technology known as Cloud Computing which is an innovation in the industry has taken off in Nigeria and is being replicated in Ghana, to be followed by other English speaking countries in West Africa. Mr. Amaar Deep S. Hari, Chief Executive Officer of IPMC Ghana has about 45,000 people it deals with worldwide. In 2010, it made $17 billion returns on its investment and has a market value of $59 billion. EMC is a specialised I.T Company that focuses on information infrastructure globally. Cloud Computing is a model for enabling a convenient on-demand to a network access to a shared pool of infrastructure. Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Communication who opened the workshop made it clear that, the government will not entertain the dumping of waste products from any developed country into the country. He said, the government has sourced $15million Chinese credit facility for the establishment of three additional I.C.T centres in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi to speed up I.T. development in the country. He urged mobile phone operators in the country to move from customer service and instead set up complain centres to enable them to easily have an access to complain about any problem pertaining to their operations. Some of the challenges faced by government which Cloud Computing Technology seeks to address include budget deficit and the need to justify how money is spent. The theme of the workshop is �Journey to Government Cloud Computing.�
