"Dagombas Must See Themselves As Abudus And Andanis"

A parliamentary candidate for Tamale North has noted that the only way lasting peace could return to Dagbon is for Dagombas to see themselves as one and not as Abudus or Andanis. Mr Akilu Sayibu, a candidate of the New Patriotic Party for the 2012 General Election said: The categorisation of Dagombas into Abudus and Andanis in terms of succession to the Dagbon Namship (Kingship) has gone a long way to create the rather erroneous impression that every Dagomba is either an Abudu or Andani. The truth is that, to aspire to become the overlord of Dagbon one must come either from the Abudu or the Andani gate; but the gospel fact is that, not every Dagomba is a royal, he said in a media interaction in Accra. He said if Dagombas saw themselves as one instead of sympathisers of the Abudu or Andani gates it would have gone a long way to restore the once much cherished peace in Dagbon for accelerated development. The Tamale North parliamentary candidate said he would collaborate with the necessary agencies to ensure that the environment in Dagbon becomes very conducive for the needed infrastructural and manpower development for the benefit of the people, if voted into office. Mr Sayibu also suggested to politicians of Dagbon extraction to eschew the practice of using the Dagbon crisis as a platform to pursue their parochial political interests.
