English Premier League Misses Ghanaian Stars

Only two Ghanaian players will be in action when the English Premiership League kick-starts next weekend. The English Premiership has witnessed immense patronage by lots of Ghanaians but this time around it will miss some key Ghanaian performers who last season rocked arguably the best league in the world. John Mensah, Sulley Muntari, Richard Kingson and John Paintsil whom last season starred for some clubs, will be missing in action. While Paintsil has joined championship side Leicester City, coached by former England national team coach Sven Goran Erickson, John Mensah and Sulley Muntari have reverted to their parent clubs Lyon of France and Inter Milan of Italy respectively, and goalkeeper Kingson is now clubless after being released by Blackpool. The above mentioned players, together with Chelseas Michael Essien and Asamoah Gyan of Sunderland, who joined the premiership last season, scoring 13 goals, set alight the Barclaycard league in the 2010/2011 season. For instance when Sunderland clashed with Chelsea, many Ghanaians were clad in the replica jerseys of the two clubs cheering their two compatriots. At the time, Mensah, Muntari and Gyan were all playing for Sunderland. Some Ghanaians who spoke to DAILY GUIDE SPORTS expressed sadness that these Ghanaians will not be in action and the Ghanaian legion will be reduced to only two. Abdul Rahman of Nima said it was sad that the English Premiership, which is very popular in Ghana, will see only two players in action, while Ama Asante, a dyed-in-the-wool English Premiership fan said she hoped to see some Ghanaian players joining the EPL clubs in the future.
