Volta Region Is Behind You - EP Church Assures Mills

The Moderator, General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Rt. Rev. Francis Amenu, has assured President Mills that the Volta Region is calm despite the recent demonstration which criticized his performance. On Wednesday August 3, a group calling itself the NDC Youth for Action lined up on the streets in anger, calling for the head of the Regional Minister and the Ho Municipal Chief Executive for incompetence. The group of NDC supporters were also demonstrating over the delay in the construction of the University of Allied Health Sciences in the Volta region and the completion of the Eastern Corridor road. Eleven of the demonstrators including their leaders were however arrested for breaching the Public Order Act. Nonetheless, the Ho-based Rt. Rev. Amenu said the people of the Region solidly backing the President to bring more development to the area and improve the lives of Ghanaians. Can I say coming from Ho, the Regional capital of the Volta Region, let the President know that there shouldnt be any cause for alarm. The whole region is calm. Ho is calm. What happened some few weeks ago is just due to some few aggrieved elements within the community. But the larger populace we want to believe are solidly behind him and watching carefully all the great socio-economic developmental programmes put in place for the good of our nation. And we know that his great concern for issues of education as it relates particularly to tertiary education that people are crying for in the Volta Region. Rt. Rev. Amenu has urged President John Evans Atta Mills to stay focus of his work even in the face of challenges. He assured the President of the churchs prayers to ensure that he completes his tenure successfully. The Moderator and his Leaders were at the Castle on Friday August 5, to invite the President to their Synod meeting and to also thank him for Governments contribution towards the construction of the churchs University. In this country, we have various categories of people. Some may follow very objectively what is happening in Governmental circles. Some do so with a lot of sentiments so there may be agitations here and there but he should never be deterred. He should remain committed and very focused and the Lord again will make sure that his Better Ghana agenda is clearly executed.
