Policeman Arrested

A 27-year-old man who claimed to be a policeman stationed at Kaneshie MTTU has been arrested by the Adenta Police for fraud. The suspect, Sheriff Bonsi, was said to have defrauded his victims to the tune of GH1200, under the pretext of enlisting them into the Police Service. He was arrested at Ashaley Botwe, after two of his victims reported him to the Adenta District Police Command. However, investigations revealed that Sherrif Bonsi was not a policeman but rather stole the police uniform on the drying line of policeman. A search conducted in his room revealed a set of police camouflage uniform with a cap, a police belt, a beret and a pair of boots. Narrating the story to DAILY GUIDE, the commander in charge of Adenta District Police Command, DSP Stephen K. Ahiatafu, said somewhere in February this year , the suspect, who was dressed in police uniform, approached his victims in their houses and introduced himself as a policeman stationed at Kaneshie MTTU. He further told his victims that he could help them join the service. Some paid some monies to the tune of GH1200 to the suspect. The suspect later took his victims to a man he claimed was a police inspector at Ho Depot who was in charge of the Ho enlistment team. Further monies were paid to that alleged inspector as well by the victims. Later, suspect Sheriff provided his victims with fake admission letters from Ho Depot and went into hiding. He was however arrested on August 5, 2011 at Ashaley Botwe in his girlfriends room upon a tip off. The suspect, in his caution statement, confessed that the police uniform and the other items were stolen from a policeman stationed at the Headquarters Prosecution Unit, Accra. The suspect claimed he took the items when the suspect had washed and hanged them on his drying line. DSP Ahiatafu said investigations into the matter would continue while they mount a search for the said inspector. He cautioned individuals who would want to join the service to use the right procedure.
