Ghana To Import Justices To Sit On Cases?

Pressure group Forum for Governance and Justice has questioned why the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana has failed to respond to a law suit filed against them over the blacklisting of four lawyers. The late Larry Bimi, Dr. Raymond Atuguba, Mr. Abraham Amaliba and David Annan have been blacklisted by the association for alleging that the judiciary was corrupt and amongst other things been denied access to court since May this year. The group said it believes the move by the association is a blatant attempt to intimidate the lawyers into submission. The Forum in a bid to reverse the move by the association, filed a law suit over the issue. The convener for the group Dr. Clement Apak said though the forum has filed a suit against the association since June, the case has still not been heard. He said we believe that the association does not have the capacity to operate and therefore has no basis to file a complaint that should be taken seriously by the General Legal Council. "Some have suggested that perhaps because this so called association claims to represent all judges and magistrates in Ghana, they will be having a difficulty dealing with the case because by implication, they are all a part of the association and none of them would be neutral enough to sit on the case. "That is not our problem and indeed if that is the case, they should come out publicly and if that is the case then we know we are entering into a constitutional crises. If it means that for the first time in the history in Ghana we may have to import Justices to come and sit on a case in Ghana. Others have also suggested that they cannot find lawyers to represent them, if that is the case i am sure the so called legal practitioners from outside of Ghana can come and represent them. Either way, justice delayed is justice denied and we only demand justice for the lawyers and we demand that they respond to our lawsuit.
