ANOTHER BATCH of Upper East youth whose places of abode and work were affected by the demolition of unauthorized structures at the Kumasi Race Course area in the Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti region, have been assisted to return to the Upper East region.
This makes three batches of Upper East youth that have so far returned to the region.
Earlier, when the first batch came in from Kumasi, through the
intervention of a Kumasi-based businessman, Dominic Azumah, the Upper East Regional Minister, Mark Woyongo, advised parents in the region, through the local radio stations, not to push their children to travel to the South to look for jobs.
He asked them to rather encourage them to stay and go to school as it would open more opportunities for them in future. He also promised that some of the returnees would be assisted to get jobs under the various modules of the National Youth Employment Programme.
According to the returnees, they travelled to the South because of the availability of jobs.
As at the time the third batch was being received on the morning of August 17, 2011, the expenses for the first batch, which were borne by Dominic Azumah, had not been paid by the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly as directed by the Upper East Minister. The minister therefore wondered how he was going to pay for the return of the third batch, before the driver of the bus leaves for Kumasi.
